Epic Fail……..

We should all be keeping a journal about this historic time. I must have four or five blank or half-filled journals around here, but haven’t begun nary a one. I keep telling myself that my granddaughter and all those grandkids-to-be are going to be so pissed off when they find out their Nonna, a writer and speaker, couldn’t be bothered to write down the details about the most historic time ever.

I know this because my Nana was 19 when the Spanish Flu hit and we live one hour outside of Philly. Philly was allegedly the epicenter of that worldwide disaster. Nana never once told us a story about the pandemic. And now I’m pissed. I asked my mom for a few tidbits, which she had but that was it.

So I wish for you to share with me your epic fails during this time. Yes, it’s selfish. It will make me feel better. I am going to do the same for you. And then I will get out my journal with either the black cover for a Black Plague sort of feel, or the prettiest cover for the “this is how we kept sane and happy,” sort of take on this. I have not yet decided. You may feel free to weigh in on the cover choice as well.

Here are my:

Epic Fails

  1. Writing this crazy crap down
  2. Cleaning out just ONE thing—just one–nope
    • Including but not limited to:
      • Closets
      • Linen Closets
      • Makeup Drawers
      • Junk Drawers
      • Kids’ (who have apartments, houses, children, and closets of their own) closets and bedrooms
      • Utensil drawers
      • Kitchen cabinets including Pantries
      • Offices
      • Basements
  3. Making a schedule–except for naps, haven’t missed one yet (seems wrong to count that as a positive)
  4. Remembering to pull something out of the freezer before actual dinner time (how is this a problem….you aren’t going anywhere, you pass the freezer to the microwave  18 times to warm your coffee before lunch)
  5. Cleaning (wiping down the groceries does not count)
  6. Wearing a full nice outfit (yes, I too cheat on the pants)
  7. Continuing that great flossing routine you finally achieved (why? My dentist canceled. I’ll show him)
  8. Hanging up coats
  9. Gardening of any kind
  10. Working my biceps and triceps to failure (this I am told by my trainer is a good thing, but it counts as a failure so I’m giving myself points)

This seems like to good place to start a Covidiary. It makes me look human and then my grandkids can feel sorry for me that I had so much to do that I couldn’t even get to the simplest tasks even during a quarantine.

I will, in the alternative take ALL your successes. It may spur on others to get a move on. Based on the last four weeks, I doubt it will have much motivational pull on me. But you are welcome to try and I will read every suggestion and respond accordingly. Suggest at your own peril.

Remember, as in exercise: Failure is Success!

Stay healthy, stay happy, stay safe my friends!

  1. Hi Cathy,
They don’t like wordie me! Don’t they know there is no one to talk to? I know perfect time to journal. No grandkids to give it to anyway but we would have loved it.
    Thanks Gram and Nana! Lol
Dead mouse on sticky thing in garage since last Spring. Neighbors have big snakes in house and I think they keep mice in their garbage. This one must have escaped. Excitement for quarantine.

    Love you , Beth Ann

  2. Hi Cathy,
Wordpress didn’t like Cath or wordie me! Don’t they know there is no one to talk to? I know perfect time to journal. No grandkids to give it to anyway but we would have loved it.

    1. You are not unloved here at wordpress, they just don’t recognize you! So I get both your comments! As to your comments….OMG….dead mouse on sticky thing might win the prize! But geez the neighbors…seems like the last great neghbors you had were named Steffanci! hahahha! Love you, Bethy!

      1. Oh almost true! Rita Chizauski, Sue Henry and actually the crew on Hanover St, the Mr Hatfield houses, next to Wolf office were good , too. Pttn and Pa some of best!! I have been blessed but miss PA. Love you, the best and old Hanover St. Need a collection to come back to house I found!
        Love ya. Bethie

  3. My daughter shamed me into making masks to donate, because, after all, I am retired and I have been known to use my sewing machine. I started yesterday and it took almost 2 hours to make the first one. I made the second one today and it took only one hour! I think I’ll keep it up. Maybe my masks will help people to remember not to touch their faces. I have to admit that I have self-confidence issues when I do something for the first time. It should be easier after this. My daughter has already made 16 of these buggers!

    1. So first, I’m proud of you for hanging in and keep trying. It kills me that mom has a whole sewing room of Linda’s and I don’t know how to sew a stitch on a machine….or maybe I’m happy about that! But good for you! Keep going and thanks for your commitment to something really important! Damn the self-confidence full speed ahead!

  4. Well, I have failed to lose any weight – even the 6 lbs. I have gained.
Failed to limit my wine drinking to one glass a day.

    But,
My husband and I are sanding, painting and revamping our grandkids swing set.
    I have made three puzzles
Learned how to play mah jong on line
    Tried some new recipes
    Enjoyed a few books

    1. You are doing amazing things my friend. And the Covid-15 is haunting most people, like the Freshman 20….so 6 is a win!!!!

  5. Only positives. I’m doing very well in place:

I practiced Spanish on my phone (100 days in a row today)

Tuesday I rode my bike 44 miles with 3000 ft of climbing, 230 miles in April so far

Brought my karate school to Zoom and reconnected with old students in LA, Florida, Mexico, Brazil and Belize- doing 5 classes per week.

practicing bass, drums, keyboards and mixing every day

watched hours and hours of evangelicals debating atheists on Youtube (not sure that’s positive?)

Ate virtually every meal at home for 5 weeks–$$$!

    1. Actually, I LOVE this. It IS inspiring. But then again, Bill, you are the person who has waited all his llfe to make everyone go away so you could do all the things! Yes, I forgot we are all saving money like mad….how crazy is that? Oh, and not to brag or anything, but I’ve done French on my phone 3 times!!! Haw haw (that is zee french laughter!) Love you and may everyone who reads this be inspired by your introversy!

    2. Impressive Bill. This is my response to Cathy:
      Hey!

I read your latest blog… Don’t be getting on my case about doing all those responsible things. I’ve been really busy these past 5 weeks:

Busy growing my hair really long and making it lighter (greyer)

And very busy wearing my same clothes over and over and over,

And I’ve been busy catching up on seeing my Hallmark movies for the fourth, fifth and sixth time – yes, even the Christmas ones, and that can take many hours.

And I’ve been busy THINKING about which closets should be cleaned first and organizing if I should clean the floor or the shelf of the closet or just leave it the whole thing alone.

I’ve also had to wash thousands of dishes and utensils all day long because my family keeps eating here at HOME – EVERY DAY – ALL DAY LONG.

So get off my case about doing shit

  6. Just love it! Those same thoughts have been in my mind too… Somehow I feel a little more “accomplished” after reading your blog!! Always putting a smile on my face !

    1. I knew I loved you for so many reasons! I’m sure you are doing all kinds of successes, you just don’t know it! Love you!
